This ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for APS-C DSLR cameras offers the finest of all Tamron worlds: best-in-class* 10-24mm focal length range (the 35mm equivalent of 16-37mm), the compact size of our previous SP AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II LD Aspherical [IF] (Model B001), plus vastly improved optical performance. It also includes state-of-the-art Tamron technology like VC (Vibration Compensation), a new HLD (High/Low torque-modulated Drive), Fluorine Coating, and Moisture-Resistant Construction. Combine this with exceptional resolution on everything from detailed landscapes to casual snapshots and you have a next-generation, wide-angle zoom that’s ready to go wherever your photographic vision takes you.

Excellent optical performance across the entire zoom range

The optical design includes 16 elements in 11 groups. A new large-aperture aspherical lens and LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements deliver exceptional resolution across the complete zoom range – combined with stable imaging across the entire frame. The lens also corrects comatic and transverse chromatic aberration, as well as distortion that often crops up on other wide-angle lenses. Together with Tamron’s unique BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating, which improves light transmission and suppresses reflection and dispersion on the lens surface, this new ultra-wide-angle zoom has been entirely reimagined to control flare and ghosting. The result: clear, crisp images, every time.

Tamron’s unique VC (Vibration Compensation) technology makes it easy to enjoy handheld wide-angle shooting, even in low-light environments such as evening and indoors. While maintaining the compact design of our previous Model B001, Tamron has optimised the actuator and control algorithm in order to incorporate VC into our new Model B023. Now you can unleash the power of high quality imaging, without worrying about your images being spoiled by the jittery effects of handheld shooting.

HLD meets highly precise AF

With this lens, Tamron introduces the HLD (High/Low torque-modulated Drive) AF drive system. The excellent driving power of the all-new HLD enables stable and precise focusing, even with the large focusing lens elements used on Model B023. What’s more, the Full-time Manual Focus override allows you to make fine adjustments – without having to switch from AF to MF mode.

High performance packed into a compact body

A shortened overall length vastly improves optical performance while maintaining a compact size – even with advancements such as VC and the newly developed HLD. When combined with an APS-C DSLR camera, this lens packs a world of performance into a lightweight, portable body.

Far superior image quality – while reducing lens size and weight

Tamron uses several hybrid aspherical lens elements in its lenses bearing the Aspherical designation. The benefits are two-fold: first, their non-spherical shapes virtually eliminate spherical aberration and image distortion. Second, as one hybrid aspherical lens element can take the place of multiple elements without compromising performance, they allow the lens to be much more compact.

As a result, these innovative optics have played a crucial role in delivering uniformly high image quality across all apertures and focal lengths of extraordinarily compact ultra-zoom lenses.

Sharpens edges by reducing 'colour fringing'

Chromatic aberration occurs when a lens element refracts different wavelengths of a ray of light – its rainbow colours – at very slightly different angles. This results in the 'colour fringing' that reduces the sharpness of an image. LD elements are made from special glass materials with extremely low dispersion indices (i.e. the refraction of a ray of light into rainbow colours is extremely narrow). Thus they effectively compensate for chromatic aberration at the centre of the field (on axis), a particular problem at long focal lengths (the telephoto end of the zoom range), and for lateral chromatic aberration (toward the edges of the field) that often occurs at short (wideangle) focal lengths.

Although costly, LD glass materials result in clear, vivid image quality.

Stabilises camera blur for sharp images in low light

If you're shooting handheld when light is low, especially with longer lenses, your camera's shutter speeds can extend to a point where the image may turn out blurred due to camera shake. Tamron's VC tracks this shake and neutralises it for sharper images without the inconvenience of a tripod or the artificiality of a flash, in much lower light.

Tamron's unique VC mechanism uses a proprietary actuator and algorithms to deliver an extremely stable viewfinder image with excellent tracking. The tri-axial system uses three driving coils to move internal optical components within the VC lens electromagnetically, based on signals originating from three ball bearings, made from either steel or ceramic. The VC lens elements are held in place only by contact with the balls, achieving smooth movement with minimal friction.

Tamron's original moving magnet system employed a heavy magnet positioned near the moving VC lens element. The improved VC reverses the positions of magnet and coil and attaches the VC optic to the coil. This moving coil is lighter than the magnet, and as this reduces the load on the drive system, both the VC unit and the lens are lighter and more compact.

Model B023 is equipped with a Full-time Manual Focus override mechanism that enables you to freely select the focus point. A photographer shooting with AF can instantaneously make fine focusing adjustments using MF, without having to switch the AF-MF mode back and forth. This makes it more enjoyable to create wide-angle photographic works with a more refined style exactly according to your intent.

The front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that is water- and oil-repellant. The lens surface is easier to wipe clean and is less vulnerable to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints.

An electromagnetic diaphragm system, which has been a standard feature for Canon-mount lenses, is employed in Nikon-mount lenses*. More precise diaphragm and aperture control is possible because the diaphragm blades are driven and controlled by a motor through electronic pulse signals.

Di II Digitally Integrated for DSLRs with small sensors

Di II lenses are designed for exclusive use on digital SLR cameras with APS-C-format image sensors. This kind of sensor has dimensions smaller than that of a frame of 35mm film. Di II lenses are usually more compact and lightweight.

All Tamron Di II lenses provide maximal image resolution and minimal peripheral light falloff. They also increase light transmission and eliminate the ghosting and flare with advanced multi-coating on both external and internal lens surfaces.
